Basketball Recap: Brenna Leach's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shenandoah over John Marshall

Shenandoah suffered their biggest defeat since December 19, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 64-44 to the John Marshall Monarchs. While losing is never fun, the Zeps can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 321st in Ohio, while the Monarchs are ranked 21st in West Virginia).

Shenandoah's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brenna Leach, who went 7 for 17 en route to 19 points. Leach's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Kendal Snyder was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

John Marshall's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaylee White led the charge by going 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Rilee Storm, who went 8 for 20 en route to 21 points and six rebounds.

Shenandoah's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for John Marshall, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Shenandoah has already played their next matchup (against Buckeye Trail), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. John Marshall is taking a road trip to take on Indian Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
