Softball Game Preview: Nicholas County Grizzlies vs. Shady Spring Tigers

Nicholas County is 2-8 against Shady Spring since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Nicholas County has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Nicholas County had taken Liberty down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Grizzlies came up short against the Raiders, falling 16-1.

Nicholas County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenzie Hanshaw, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

Meanwhile, Shady Spring was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Greenbrier East.

Jenna Joyce put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Joyce was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brooklynn Blankenship was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Pizzino, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Nicholas County's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Shady Spring, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-7.

Nicholas County beat Shady Spring 9-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
