Waupaca and Iola-Scandinavia are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Comets will take on the Thunderbirds at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Waupaca has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Waupaca after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Wrightstown, falling 19-9. The Comets have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Iola-Scandinavia). They put the hurt on Westfield Area with a sharp 21-6 victory on Friday. Considering the Thunderbirds have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Iola-Scandinavia got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Berrens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee Jueds, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Iola-Scandinavia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Iola-Scandinavia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Waupaca, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Waupaca might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Iola-Scandinavia in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
