Softball Recap: Clinton Cougars vs. Big Foot Chiefs
Clinton won against Edgerton last Tuesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Clinton Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Big Foot Chiefs 6-5. Winning may never get old, but Clinton sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Ashley Theisen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Theisen has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in five consecutive pitching appearances. Theisen was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and a double.
Theisen wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Miranda Dahle, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Allie Bell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Like Clinton, Big Foot also got a great game from a two-way player: Holly Kynell. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Kynell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Lily Wolf made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.
Clinton's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Big Foot, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.
Clinton will head out on the road to square off against Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Turner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Big Foot, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Williams Bay at 4:30 p.m.
