Softball Recap: Groton-Dunstable Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Nashoba Regional, Groton-Dunstable was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They skirted past the North Middlesex Regional Patriots 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Crusaders have posted since April 2nd.

Kaitlin Haggerty spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Groton-Dunstable's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kierra Scully, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Scully has hit this season. Another was Aubrey Leedberg, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Groton-Dunstable hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Groton-Dunstable's win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-8-1. As for North Middlesex Regional, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Groton-Dunstable will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
