Softball Game Preview: Peotone Blue Devils vs. Chicago Christian Knights

The Peotone Blue Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Chicago Christian Knights at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Peotone has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Friday, Peotone sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Grant Park. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won five in a row.

Sophie Klawitter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peotone saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Clay, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Chicago Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They came up short against Timothy Christian, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

The win got Peotone back to even at 8-8. As for Chicago Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Chicago Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Peotone has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Chicago Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Peotone keep running through batters, or will the Knights buck the trend?

Peotone beat Chicago Christian 6-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
