Preview: Raleigh Charter Phoenix vs. Falls Lake Firebirds
The Raleigh Charter Phoenix's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Falls Lake Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Raleigh Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 536th, while Falls Lake is ranked 66th).
Last Wednesday, Raleigh Charter came up short against Princeton and fell 45-36.
Meanwhile, after a string of 15 wins, Falls Lake's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Williams. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
The losing side was boosted by Emerson Thompson, who shot 4-for-10 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 37 points and 14 rebounds. Thompson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Williams, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Raleigh Charter has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Falls Lake, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-1.
Raleigh Charter took a serious blow against Falls Lake in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 67-32. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Raleigh Charter was down 35-13.
