Basketball Recap: New London Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

New London was the 52-35 winner over North Kingstown when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The New London Whalers fell just short of the North Kingstown Skippers by a score of 41-38 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Whalers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 41st in Connecticut, while the Skippers are ranked first in Rhode Island).

North Kingstown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaelyn Holmes led the charge by putting up 16 points. The game was Holmes' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Shea Kalin, who posted four points and 12 rebounds.

New London's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-6. As for North Kingstown, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

New London wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 46-43 defeat against Springfield Renaissance on the 19th. As for North Kingstown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-20 win against Chariho on the 20th.
