Basketball Game Preview: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Cox Mill Chargers

The Marvin Ridge Mavericks just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Cox Mill Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Cox Mill will be up against a hot Marvin Ridge squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Marvin Ridge took their game on Monday with ease, bagging a 68-24 win over Sun Valley. The matchup marked the Mavericks' most dominant victory of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marvin Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Haiden Ratike, who went 7 for 10 en route to 16 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Ratike a new career-high in rebounds (three). Matthew Rivlin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and five boards.

Marvin Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cox Mill). They blew past A.L. Brown 87-64 on Friday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Wonders are ranked 483rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marvin Ridge has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Cox Mill, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-10.

Marvin Ridge couldn't quite finish off Cox Mill in their previous matchup back in December of 2014 and fell 42-40. Can Marvin Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
