Basketball Recap: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. Mater Lakes Academy Bears
Cypress Bay was the 79-64 winner over Mater Lakes Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Cypress Bay Lightning took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mater Lakes Academy Bears on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lightning came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Bears are ranked 304th).
Mater Lakes Academy was led to victory by Tai Bell and Khanye Moss. Bell almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds, while Moss went 5 of 11 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Bell's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.
Cypress Bay has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for Mater Lakes Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12.
Cypress Bay will head out to challenge Taravella at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they will welcome Hialeah Educational Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hialeah Educational Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Mater Lakes Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
