Baseball Recap: Sweeny Sets Scoring Season-High Against Wharton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sweeny). They never let the Wharton Tigers get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Thursday. The Bulldogs have beaten the Tigers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.

Kaden Jammer and Lane Cole made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jammer kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Cole pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Jammer went 2-for-4 with one double, while Cole went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Cole has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Slade Hickl was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rooke Samford, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one triple.

Sweeny kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

Sweeny's record now sits at 16-9-1. As for Wharton, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Sweeny didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-3 defeat against Needville on the 22nd. As for Wharton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against El Campo on the 22nd.
