Baseball Recap: Morro Bay Comes Up Short

Morro Bay fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mission College Prep on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Royals by a score of 8-7. The Pirates' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Colton White was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Morro Bay's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 3-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Morro Bay got a good showing from Coen League, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. League has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Eli Brown and Jack Deovlet stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brown went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Deovlet went 3-for-4 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Joseph Skaggs, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Morro Bay's record now sits at 13-12. As for Mission College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.

While Morro Bay had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
