Baseball Recap: South Fort Myers Takes a Loss

South Fort Myers fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs by a score of 4-3. The Wolfpack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fernando Valenzuela spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Juan Angeles and David Acevedo did some serious damage despite the final result: Angeles scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Acevedo scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Acevedo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Cruz, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

South Fort Myers' loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Lakewood Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.

Coming up, South Fort Myers will head out to take on Cypress Lake at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. As for Lakewood Ranch, they will face off against Middleton at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Middleton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.54 runs per game on average), something Lakewood Ranch will no doubt try to take advantage of.
