Capistrano Valley is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Moanalua. Capistrano Valley walked away with a 33-23 victory over Moanalua on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cougars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 99th in California, while the Menehune are ranked 14th in Hawaii).

Tommy Acosta had an outrageously good game as he threw for 204 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 90 yards.

Another reason for the win was Capistrano Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 9.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Gavin Kinkaid and Giovanni Angeles who racked up 6.5 sacks between them. Tyler Balko looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 216 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes. Rasharee "Rocket" Demery Jr. also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
