Softball Game Preview: Clifton Central Comets vs. Herscher Tigers

Clifton Central is 0-7 against Herscher since May of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. The Comets will be playing at home against the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Herscher will be up against a hot Clifton Central squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Comets blew past St. Anne 14-1 on Thursday.

Clifton Central got a massive performance out of Rayven Perkins, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Perkins has posted since back in April of 2025. Chloe Cotter was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Clifton Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Herscher couldn't beat Watseka on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the third inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 11-10.

Reese Hartman (2028) made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Emery Fritz (2027), who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Herscher's loss dropped their record down to 14-16. As for Clifton Central, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.
