Volleyball Recap: Xavier Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Bella Velasquez and Lily Renz

Xavier was the 3-1 winner over Winneconne when they last played one another back in October of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Hawks fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Xavier actually scored more points across those five sets (98-95), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 12-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-5.

Xavier's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lily Renz, who had 16 digs and two aces, and Bella Velasquez, who had 18 digs. Renz has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played. Sydney Neilitz also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Xavier's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 21-7. As for Winneconne, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Coming up, Xavier will be playing in front of their home fans against Appleton North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winneconne, they will be taking part in a tournament against West De Pere at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
