Softball Game Preview: Desert Mountain Wolves vs. Alhambra Lions

The Desert Mountain Wolves will square off against the Alhambra Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Desert Mountain's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Verrado by a score of 3-0. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Vipers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Verrado's batters probably weren't too happy with Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 21 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Those 21 strikeouts gave Goodwin a new career-high.

At the plate, Zoe Horning and Gabby Borovansky did most of the damage at the plate: Horning scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2, while Borovansky went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. The dominant performance gave Horning a new career-high in stolen bases.

Desert Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Alhambra unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 21-0 to Centennial on Tuesday.

Desert Mountain's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Alhambra, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
