Recap: Wardlaw Academy Patriots vs. King Academy Knights
On Friday, The Wardlaw Academy Patriots faced the King Academy Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Wardlaw Academy blew past King Academy 44-6 on the road. The result was nothing new for Wardlaw Academy, who have now won three matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
Colt Bailey was his usual excellent self, rushing for 143 yards and four touchdowns on only five carries. Bailey was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Addison Faust made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Wardlaw Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Newberry Academy and 2-6 Andrew Jackson Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 28.3% over those games). As for King Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Wardlaw Academy will look to defend their home field on Friday against Faith Christian at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Faith Christian is ranked sixth, while Wardlaw Academy is ranked fifth). As for King Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Jefferson Davis Academy at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
