Football Game Preview: Sabinal Yellowjackets vs. D'Hanis Cowboys

Sabinal hasn't had much luck against D'Hanis recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to challenge the Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Sabinal has given up an average of 39.9 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Sabinal and Brackett had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Yellowjackets took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers on Friday. The matchup was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but the Yellowjackets couldn't quite close it out.

Sabinal's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Andy Reyes, who picked up 89 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Kannen Rihn, who picked up 57 receiving yards and one score. Reyes is becoming a predictor of the Yellowjackets' success: when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, D'Hanis made off with a 27-26 win over La Pryor. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

D'Hanis' win came from a few key players Sabinal will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Evan Craft, who threw for 141 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 56 yards. 84 of Craft's passing yards were hauled in by Josiah Rodriguez, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to D'Hanis' defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Joe Ruiz and Kase Braden, who racked up four sacks between them.

The victory got D'Hanis back to even at 3-3. As for Sabinal, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Things could have been worse for Sabinal, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-13 loss to D'Hanis in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
