Basketball Recap: Franklin Takes a Loss

Franklin suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against the Eastwood Troopers, falling 71-45. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while the Troopers are ranked 126th).

Eastwood had a senior duo take command as Devin Falk-Ramirez dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists and Edward Avila went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points and six boards. Those six rebounds gave Avila a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Butler, who posted nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Franklin and nudges their season record down to 13-13. As for Eastwood, they pushed their record up to 21-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Franklin will take on Socorro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin is facing Socorro at the right time seeing as Socorro is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Eastwood, they will face off against Pebble Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Eastwood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.
