Softball Recap: Berkeley Springs Comes Up Short

Berkeley Springs had lost 13 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-8 to make it 14. They came up short against the Petersburg Vikings, falling 22-2. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.

Berkeley Springs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Scotlyn Forney 2027, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

As for Petersburg, their win bumped their record up to 4-1. They haven't had any issues with Berkeley Springs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

On Petersburg's side, Karlee DiBenedetto and Lacey Moyers were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, DiBenedetto tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Moyers tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. At bat, DiBenedetto went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run, while Moyers went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ella Chew was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Ella Markwell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Coming up, Berkeley Springs will square off against Hedgesville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Petersburg, they will be taking part in a tournament against Martinsburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
