Basketball Recap: Philipsburg-Osceola Takes a Loss

Philipsburg-Osceola was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy WolfPack. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 599th, while the WolfPack are ranked 248th).

Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ethan Bowen led the charge by putting up 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocco Gigante, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Philipsburg-Osceola's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Philipsburg-Osceola will square off against Somerset at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Philipsburg-Osceola is facing Somerset at the right time seeing as Somerset is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy, they and West Branch will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. West Branch knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy likes a good challenge.
