Basketball Recap: Sumrall Takes a Loss

Sumrall was the 60-47 winner over Purvis when they last played one another on January 10th, but their luck changed this time around. The Sumrall Bobcats fell just short of the Purvis Tornadoes by a score of 56-53 on Tuesday. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Purvis can attribute much of their success to Beni Raanes, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Judd Gipson, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Sumrall's defeat dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Purvis, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 8-11.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Sumrall Bobcats challenge the Columbia Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season. As for Purvis, they will square off against Forrest County Agricultural at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Purvis also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 51.1 points per game.
