Softball Recap: Luis Valdez Leadership Academy Takes a Loss

Luis Valdez Leadership Academy had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it five. They lost 16-1 to the Design Tech Dragons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dragons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-2 back in April.

As for Design Tech, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.5 runs.

For Design Tech's part, Sonia Teismann made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. The dominant performance also gave Teismann a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Desiree Torres and Jeneva Fletcher did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Fletcher went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Torres has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Angelica Soto, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Luis Valdez Leadership Academy has already played their next match, a 10-2 loss against KIPP San Jose Collegiate on the 9th. As for Design Tech, they will be playing at home against Summit Shasta at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Black Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
