Softball Recap: Taft Raiders vs. Brennan Bears
Taft extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 18-9. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brennan Bears. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 3-2.
Taft saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Quiroz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jacelyn Parks was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
As for Brennan, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.
On Brennan's side, Q Quintanilla made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. Quintanilla was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avery Leatherman was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lili Salas, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Taft is set to challenge their familiar foe O'Connor at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 4.1, the Panthers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Brennan will take on rival Warren at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
