Softball Recap: San Jacinto Finds Playoff Glory Versus Santa Clara

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only San Jacinto walked away with it. They never let the Santa Clara Saints get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lucy Barreras made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Barreras wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adriana Cruz, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave Cruz a new career-high. Shaila Fernandez was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

San Jacinto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for San Jacinto and bumps their season record up to 11-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Santa Clara, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Looking ahead, San Jacinto is taking a road trip to square off against Eisenhower at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Santa Clara does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
