Baseball Recap: Arcadia Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Arcadia had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Aliso Niguel Wolverines 2-1 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Apaches.

Damian Catano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other pitching news, Arcadia got a great performance from Gus Cooper as he struck out six batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk).

Catano wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leo Peniche, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Arcadia pushed their record up to 26-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Aliso Niguel, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 22-7.

Coming up, Arcadia will take on Mira Costa at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their 25th straight win, something the Apaches surely won't give up without a fight. Aliso Niguel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
