Basketball Game Preview: Torrance Tartars vs. El Segundo Eagles

The Torrance Tartars will take on the El Segundo Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Torrance is headed into Tuesday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-63 heartbreaker at the hands of North. That's two games in a row now that the Tartars have lost by exactly five points.

Meanwhile, El Segundo came up short against South on Friday and fell 71-61. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Spartans are ranked 243rd).

El Segundo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Torrance, their loss dropped their record down to 17-5.

Torrance was able to grind out a solid win over El Segundo when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 53-43. Will Torrance repeat their success, or does El Segundo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
