The Polk County Wildcats will head out to take on the Sequoyah Chiefs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Polk County's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Sequoyah's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Polk County earned an 8-3 victory over Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Mallie Evans made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Kenley Evans was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Carlee Hicks also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Polk County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sequoyah never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against South-Doyle on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Cherokees. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Chiefs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Like Polk County, Sequoyah also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Harris. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Harris was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Kilpatrick, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Morgan Worley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 3-7. As for Polk County, their record is now 4-6.
Polk County suffered a grim 16-2 defeat to Sequoyah when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
