Baseball Game Preview: Xaverian Clippers vs. St. John's Prep Red Storm

Xaverian is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the St. John's Prep Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Xaverian is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Kellenberg Memorial.

Jordan Steiger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Xaverian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Cronin, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Cronin is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, St. John's Prep came up short against St. Anthony's on Saturday, falling 12-2. The loss put an end to the Red Storm's undefeated start to the season.

Xaverian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for St. John's Prep, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Everything went Xaverian's way against St. John's Prep when the teams last played back in April of 2021, as Xaverian made off with a 16-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Xaverian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
