Basketball Recap: Merrill Bluejays vs. Wausau West Warriors
Merrill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the Wausau West Warriors 60-32. While losing is never fun, the Bluejays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Warriors are ranked 70th).
Wausau West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bennett Matteson, who went 9-for-10 on his way to 17 points and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Matteson a new career-high in field goal percentage (90%). Another player making a difference was Kargie Cooper, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 14 points and seven rebounds.
Merrill's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Wausau West, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
Merrill does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wausau West, they will take on D.C. Everest at 7:00 p.m. on March 7th.
