Baseball Recap: JT Broas-Jew Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat El Cerrito

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fairfield, Pinole Valley was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They never let the El Cerrito Gauchos get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Gauchos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Rey Malan's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pinole Valley is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-7-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Pinole Valley got a big performance out of JT Broas-Jew, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ivan Rojo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Pinole Valley's record is now 6-9-1. As for El Cerrito, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-6.

Pinole Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gauchos: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
