Softball Recap: Kalamazoo Christian Starts Season with Victory Against Lawton

Kalamazoo Christian had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Lawton Blue Devils 17-5 on Friday. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Carien Ybema was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Ybema was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Alexis Earley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Cecile Ybema was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Kalamazoo Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawton only posted a batting average of .333.

Kalamazoo Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Lawton: the pair will be back at it again later today.
