Softball Recap: Newark Gets the Win

Newark won the last time they faced Groveport-Madison and things went their way on Monday too. Newark was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Groveport-Madison. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maygen Woody spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Lexi Shanaberg was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Karma Wells was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Newark hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Newark's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Groveport-Madison, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Newark will have a chance to go back-to-back against Groveport-Madison: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
