Baseball Recap: Eastern Victorious

After losing to Ballard the last time they met, Eastern decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles walked away with a 7-2 win over the Bruins on Thursday.

Eastern got a great performance from EJ Eggen as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Eggen a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Niko Williams, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Eastern: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Matt Collier, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Eastern's victory bumped their record up to 11-18. As for Ballard, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern will square off against Owensboro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ballard, they will challenge Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
