Baseball Game Preview: Independence Mustangs vs. Western Dubuque Bobcats

Independence is 0-10 against Western Dubuque since May of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mustangs will challenge the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Independence's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Western Dubuque's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Monday, Independence didn't have quite enough to beat Solon and fell 2-1. The matchup marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Western Dubuque). They were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over Kennedy on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bobcats have posted against the Cougars since May 30, 2023.

The victory was the third in a row for Western Dubuque, bringing their record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Independence came up short against Western Dubuque in their previous matchup back in June of 2025, falling 7-4. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
