Basketball Recap: Carnegie Drops Highest Score of Season Against Cordell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carnegie). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Cordell Blue Devils 67-24. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on four straight.

Carnegie was led to victory by Ken Whittington and Duane Cavaness. Whittington went 9 for 17 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven assists and five steals, while Cavaness almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Whittington is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Kevin Galvez, who posted seven points and 13 rebounds.

Carnegie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Carnegie's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Cordell, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carnegie will welcome Hinton at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Carnegie has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Cordell, they will be playing at home against Sayre at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Cordell is facing Sayre at the right time seeing as Sayre is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
