Football Recap: Capital City Cavaliers vs. Smith-Cotton Tigers

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Capital City had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Smith-Cotton Tigers 49-20. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won five contests by 24 points or more so far this season.

A big part of Capital City's victory came down to the chemistry between Evan Schaffer and his top target Marcus Driver. Schaffer rushed for 60 yards and three touchdowns while Driver picked up 165 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Schaffer also passed for three passing touchdowns, which is notable because Capital City is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Isaiah Franklin made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

When it comes to explaining why Smith-Cotton lost, don't look at Beau Gray. Despite the final result, he rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 233 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave Gray a new career-high in rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Connor Harris, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Capital City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Smith-Cotton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
