Basketball Game Preview: Brevard HEAT Firehawks vs. Orlando Science Orcas

The Brevard HEAT Firehawks will square off against the Orlando Science Orcas at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Brevard HEAT and five for Orlando Science.

Brevard HEAT is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since November 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They were beaten by City of Life Christian Academy 78-40. The Firehawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-18.

Despite their defeat, Brevard HEAT saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Riley Ellis, who posted 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 37.5% of Brevard HEAT's points, marking the third time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Younger, who earned eight points.

Meanwhile, Orlando Science might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Ridgeview Global Studies Academy an easy 65-43 win.

Like Orlando Science, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Myles Gipson led the charge by going 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points. That's the most points Gipson has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Harris, who put up ten points.

Brevard HEAT's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Orlando Science, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
