Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Takes a Loss

Rock Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 82-78 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cherry Creek Bruins. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bruins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Rock Canyon lost, don't look at Kasen Lehman. Despite the final result, he went 13 of 23 en route to 31 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lehman a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Ellwood, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

It was another big night for Jeremiah Hammond, who went 13 of 22 en route to 36 points and six boards for Cherry Creek. Hammond's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Sean Kilkenny also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Rock Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Cherry Creek, they moved to 5-7 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Rock Canyon is taking a road trip to face off against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ponderosa is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season. Cherry Creek has already played their next matchup (against Smoky Hill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
