Senior center led Sioux Falls Christian to Class A state championship.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Griffen Goodbary of Sioux Falls Christian (Sioux Falls) is the 2024-25 South Dakota MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-11 senior center led the Chargers to a 24-1 record and Class A state championship.

For the season, Goodbary averaged 18.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest. In a 61-51 victory over Hamlin in the state final, he piled up game-highs of 32 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 12 of 21 from the field. He also led the way with a team-high 16 points in the semifinals.

Goodbary helped Sioux Falls Christian to a 49-2 record over the past two seasons with back-to-back state championship game appearances.

A 4.0 student, Goodbary signed with South Dakota State in November over offers from Augustana, Northeastern and South Dakota.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
