Flag Football Game Preview: St. Edward Green Wave vs. Lake Park Lancers

The St. Edward Green Wave will square off against the Lake Park Lancers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. St. Edward knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Lake Park likes a good challenge.

On Saturday, St. Edward earned a 32-20 victory over St. Charles East.

A big part of St. Edward's win came down to the chemistry between Layne Dawson and her top target Savannah Lynch. Dawson picked up 136 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns while Lynch gained 151 total yards and three touchdowns. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 88 yards. Sarah Gurley also helped out with an impressive 84 receiving yards.

St. Edward didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dawson and Ava Pierce. Dawson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more receiving touchdowns the last four times she's played.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lake Park's offense. They fell 8-0 to Saint Viator on Thursday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Lancers were not able to get on the board.

St. Edward is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.4 points over those games. As for Lake Park, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

St. Edward took their win against Lake Park in their previous meeting back in September by a conclusive 32-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
