Basketball Recap: Holy Cross Indians vs. Newport Wildcats
Holy Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 70-59 to the Newport Wildcats. The Indians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.
Newport was led to victory by Griffin Starks and Yamil Rondon. Starks dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Rondon went 8 of 12 on his way to 23 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Starks a new career-high in points. DaShawn Anderson was another key player, putting up seven points along with six boards and five assists.
Holy Cross' loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Newport, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
