Football Recap: Valor South Austin Sets Scoring Season-High Against Jubilee Lake View University Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valor South Austin). They managed a 64-60 victory over Jubilee Lake View University Prep on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Valor South Austin, adding 17 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Eric Sampson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Valor South Austin didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Owen Harris and Joel Geroy. With that strong performance, Geroy is now averaging an impressive 100.8 receiving yards per game. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Jubilee Lake View University Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Richard Benitez, who rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 53 receiving yards and one score. Benitez also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making nine total tackles and defending two passes. Damien Duarte was another key pass catcher, picking up 80 receiving yards and four TDs.

Valor South Austin now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Jubilee Lake View University Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-2.

Coming up, Valor South Austin will head out on the road to take on Williamson County HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Valor South Austin will be up against Williamson County HomeSchool's rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.2 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jubilee Lake View University Prep, they will host Jubilee Brownsville at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Jubilee Lake View University Prep will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
