Preview: South Bend Clay Colonials vs. Trinity Titans

South Bend Clay is on a six-game streak of home losses, Trinity a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The South Bend Clay Colonials will take on the Trinity Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (South Bend Clay is ranked 349th, while Trinity is ranked 363rd).

South Bend Clay struggled with assists on Monday (Glenn had 700% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. South Bend Clay took a 45-29 bruising from Glenn. South Bend Clay has struggled against Glenn recently, as their contest on Monday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Maliya Freeman, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds. She scored a full 41.4% of South Bend Clay's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Delilah Castaneda, who scored 10 points.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Trinity on the road against South Bend Career Academy on Tuesday as the squad secured a 55-18 victory. The win was just what Trinity needed coming off of a 58-27 defeat in their prior contest.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trinity to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie Gabrielse, who scored 9 points along with 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Hopkins, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

La Porte's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while South Bend Clay's defeat dropped theirs to 0-8.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: South Bend Clay have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Trinity struggles in that department as they've been even better at 35.9 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. South Bend Clay was able to grind out a solid victory over Trinity in their previous matchup back in January, winning 29-20. Will South Bend Clay repeat their success, or does Trinity have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
