Softball Recap: Lovejoy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sherman

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lovejoy). Everything went their way against the Sherman Bearcats on Thursday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. Considering the Leopards have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Izzy Guarriello made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 23 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Jainael Richardson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addie George, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Lovejoy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sherman only posted a batting average of .188.

Lovejoy has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Sherman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-19-2 record this season.

As of now, neither Lovejoy nor Sherman have any future games scheduled.
