Basketball Recap: Martin County Starts off Right with Win over Southside

Martin County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed past the Southside Seahawks to the tune of 64-13. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-6.

Leading Martin County to victory were Jy'Mir Hollis and Jordan Matthewson. Hollis shot 73% from the field en route to 17 points and four steals, while Matthewson went 8-for-11 on his way to 16 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Matthewson a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Another player making a difference was Zymere Ruffin, who posted ten points.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Southside will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against North East Carolina Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Martin County will be paying especially close attention to the Seahawks' contest: after the Seahawks face off against Ayden - Grifton, they'll take on Martin County again at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
