Basketball Recap: Camelback Takes a Loss

Camelback lost against South Mountain two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Camelback Spartans took a blow against the South Mountain Jaguars, falling 59-25. The Spartans' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Camelback lost, don't look at Kyliana Massey. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points and eight rebounds. What's more, Massey also posted a 44% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024.

Bry'Ann Wiley was her usual excellent self, going 8 of 14 to rack up 23 points in addition to seven boards and six steals for South Mountain. Wiley has become a key player for South Mountain: the team is 10-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Asia Martin, who earned 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Camelback's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for South Mountain, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season.

Camelback didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-24 win against Maryvale on the 7th. As for South Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 72-16 victory against Browne on the 7th.
