Basketball Game Preview: Walla Walla Blue Devils vs. Chiawana Riverhawks

Walla Walla and Chiawana are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Walla Walla Blue Devils will head out to take on the Chiawana Riverhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Last Saturday, everything went Walla Walla's way against Pasco as Walla Walla made off with a 65-45 win. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Chiawana won against Pasco on Tuesday with 84 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Chiawana really took it to Hanford for the full four quarters, racking up an 84-47 victory. The Riverhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Chiawana has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.3 points per game. As for Walla Walla, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Walla Walla came up short against Chiawana in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 71-59. Can Walla Walla avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
