Recap: ThunderRidge Grizzlies vs. Valor Christian Eagles
On Saturday, the ThunderRidge Grizzlies faced the Valor Christian Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. ThunderRidge came out on top against Valor Christian by a score of 62-55. The victory was nothing new for ThunderRidge as they're now sitting on three straight.
ThunderRidge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tommy Wight, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was Wight's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Crawford, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Valor Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Scherer, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Scherer scored a full 40% of Valor Christian's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Brady Wynja was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
ThunderRidge is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Valor Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-1.
ThunderRidge will be playing at home against Overland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Overland's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Valor Christian and Regis Jesuit will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Regis Jesuit will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Valor Christian is ranked sixth).
